May 1st - More Than a Public Holiday
The Labour Day has always been more than just a day off. What started as a wave of global strikes (particularly for an 8-hour work day) eventually led to meaningful reforms, shaping the foundation of modern labor rights.
In Sweden, Första maj has long been associated with the labor movement and social solidarity. It remains the only public holiday in the country that is also a day for political demonstrations, often accompanied by parades, speeches, and gatherings that reflect on issues in the workplace and in society at large.
Today, while the original demands have evolved, the spirit of Labour Day continues. It’s a moment to pause and recognize the importance of safe, fair, and inclusive working environments—values that matter as much now as they did over a century ago.
At Eccoci, we honour this legacy by supporting healthy, respectful, and empowering workplaces. We believe that everyone deserves not just a job, but a work life that respects their time, wellbeing, and individuality.
